Doha International Book Fair

2015

The 26th Doha International Book Fair takes place between 2nd December and 12th December 2015 at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Education City.

This year is the 26th edition of the fair and promises over 400 exhibitors from across the Arab world and beyond, including Turkey, India, Germany, Sudan and the United Kingdom.

Books for All

The Qatar Museums booth showcases our art, heritage, and culture through a range of vast publications. Visitors can browse the collection of publications and make purchases.

As part of the event, on Thursday 3rd December at 4pm, we'll be launching two new publications too:

99 Domes: Masjid of Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab by author Ibrahim Mohamed Jaidah
This publication offers a rich visual and spatial journey within and around the masjid, highlighting its design intricacies that merge magnificence and simplicity in a unique harmony.
 
Qatari Kitchen by author Aisha Al Tamimi
Offering a panoramic view of the architecture of Qatari homes, this book focuses on the kitchen as an essential space.
 

Workshops for all

JOURNEY THROUGH TIME FOR KIDS
Inspired by Ottoman costumes and orientalist paintings, kids are invited to come and create their own dress and enjoy other fun-filled activities.

ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY AND THE QUR'AN: A SHARED JOURNEY
Join us in a book discussion with author Ibrahim Y. Al Fakhroo. The book displays a rare collection of Quran, which was the main source of Arabic calligraphy, starting from the 9th century to the 21st century.

STORY TIME WITH MAKTABA
An enjoyable story time session for young children that includes fun activities.

MAKE YOUR BOOK JACKET 
Everyone might have a favourite book to keep safe. Join this workshop and learn an easy creative way of making your own book jacket for your favourite book, using recycled paper.

THE HUNT WORKSHOP
Discover the importance and symbolism of the falcon in Islamic Art as inspired by MIA’s special exhibition The Hunt: Princely Pursuits in Islamic Lands. Participants will reproduce a symmetrical design of two Ottoman falcons and enjoy other creative activities.

MARVELLOUS CREATURES WORKSHOP 
Make your own animal masks in this one-day workshop inspired by MIA’s special exhibition Marvellous Creatures: Animal Fables in Islamic Art.

WRITING SHORT STORIES
This workshop, presented by Dr. Imtenan Smadi, aims to explain the assets of a short story, according to the latest researches and literary schools.

Qatar-Turkey

As 2015 is the Year of Culture of Qatar-Turkey, Turkey is the 'guest of honour' at this year's Doha International Book Fair.

Turkish President Recep Erdogan officially launched the event on its opening night, and for the duration of the fair, publishers from Turkey will display titles.
