Curate Award (now closed)

A chance to break new ground

Curate, a collaboration between Qatar Museums and Fondazione Prada, was a global search for curatorial talent. It recognised the potential in every individual and was open to anyone with a great idea – whether part of the art world or not. People entered by uploading a short video explaining their thinking.

The judging panel included Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Miuccia Prada, Rem Koolhaas, Nadine Labaki, Nawal El Moutawakel, the first woman from a Muslim majority country to win an Olympic gold medal, and Hans Ulrich, co-director of London’s Serpentine Gallery. The judges looked for inventive, contemporary concepts with cultural specificity and social significance.

Finalists have been selected and the overall winner, to be announced in May 2014, will see their concept realised in an actual exhibition. Find out more about the award.

"Curating" no longer belongs to the museum. It has become possible for anyone to participate in the selection, editing and communication of ideas. We hope people will think about the future potential of exhibition making.
