Discover our family: Yue Yuan From Beijing to Doha

Yumna - Yue Yuan

Four years ago, I came to Doha from Beijing for first time. Perhaps because I am a Mandarin -Arabic speaker, I never felt loneliness. Looking at the familiar Arabic letters, listening to people's chatting and conversations, I was having a feeling of déjà vu it all felt familiar.

I was privileged enough to meet H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa during the 2008 Olympics in China. That short encounter changed the trajectory of my life. Shortly after, I decided to move from the Far East to Qatar. I was intrigued by the Museum of Islamic Art and decided to apply for a job there.  Since I was impressed by Her Excellence’s vision about the Museum that doesnt only preserve the vast diversity of Islamic art, but also provides a welcoming place for the international community to learn more about an often-oversimplified culture.

Qatar not only enjoys the prosperity of a modern city, but also preserves the simplicity of a traditional Gulf country. People from around the world come here to work together. Although we come from different countries, speak different languages and have different cultural backgrounds, the Museum of Islamic Art connects us together on this international stage, for we all share a common purpose: to let people in the world know more about Islamic art and provide people with a better understanding of Qatar's most valuable traditional culture and modern civilization.
