Hermitage Days Special Lecture

MIA is delighted to announce the HERMITAGE DAYS at the Museum of Islamic Art from 27 – 29 November 2019, staging a series of talks and hands-on-workshops with Conservation and Collection specialists from Russia’s most prestigious museum, the State Hermitage of St Petersburg.
The series will be inaugurated on Thursday 27 November 2019, 6 pm with a special lecture by Prof. Dr. Mikhail Piotrovskiy, General Director of the Hermitage since 1992, talking about the history and expansion of the Hermitage and its world-famous collection. He will be followed by Irina Guruleva, Research Officer in the Department of Scientific Restoration and Conservation at the Hermitage with a second lecture introducing the Hermitage’s best practice Collection Care.
Dr. Piotrovskiy is an eminent Arabist and Archaeologist and the author of more than 250 publications including catalogues of Arabic manuscripts, medieval monuments and ancient inscriptions as well as works on Islamic political history and Arabic culture and archeology. Piotrovskiy has been invested with numerous orders and medals, both Russian and foreign, including the Order of the Rising Sun and the Order of Honor.
Irina Guruleva is a research officer of the Department of the Scientific Restoration and Conservation of the State Hermitage museum. She is responsible for the administrative work and documentation of the department. Mrs. Guruleva is in the charge of the exhibition and publishing activities connected with conservation as well as the direction related to the development of technological research in the field of restoration.
