Tours of the National Museum of Qatar
A series of exclusive tours for Qataris, exploring the new National Museum have been taking place. They offer the chance to view the magnificent exterior and interior of the new building, designed by the famous architect Jean Nouvel and inspired by the desert rose.
For the first tour, a group of 20 nationals, most of them influential bloggers have shared their visit with the local community through social media. Over 500 Qataris and college students have applied to go on in these tours during April and May.
QM is committed to ensure that the NMoQ reflects a part of every Qatari’s life, and represents their roots, history and identity. The local community is, and will always be the main focus of all future activities of the museum.
The museum is built around Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani’s original palace – his family home and seat of the government for 25 years, which has a unique historical significance for the State of Qatar.
The new museum will include permanent and temporary galleries, a 220-seat auditorium, two cafes, a restaurant, a gift shop, separate facilities for schools groups and VIPs, heritage research centres, conservation laboratories and collections’ storage areas.
