Singapore names orchid in honour of Unesco

Singapore has named a native orchid in honour of UNESCO, during the meetings of the 38th Session of the World Heritage Committee in Doha today. The orchid was named Dendrobium UNESCO and has a unique purple-blue colour. 

Chair of the 38th Session, H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova, and Chairman of Singapore National Commission for UNESCO Lawrence Wong, all presided over the Orchid naming and presentation ceremony.

 

 

 

Its heritage can be traced to places all over the world. In many ways, it embodies the coming together of many nations in the spirit of mutual appreciation, exchange, cooperation and growth for a common purpose.
