Qatari Week in Brazil

Our Years of Culture Qatar-Brazil team are busy preparing for Qatar Week in Brazil!

Qatar Museums and the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage will launch Qatari Week in Sao Paulo, Brazil, this September. As part of the Qatar-Brazil 2014 year of culture, the event will show Qatar’s history, heritage and values to Brazil, and offers an exciting interactive programme across culture and heritage of both countries.

Every day, from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st September, there’ll be performances by Qatari bands, food tasting, henna drawings, calligraphy workshops, and much more. Visitors can watch dhow carvers, enjoy a Qatar national dress photo opportunity, and see what a Qatari wedding looks and feels like!

What else are we doing in Brazil?

We have the 1001 Inventions - Science from Muslim Civilisation Education Programmes launching in Qatar Foundation schools across Rio di Janeiro, from 16th September and at the Institute Butantan, Sao Paulo, from 20th September.

Sheikha Nora Al Thani will be presenting a lecture on Women in Qatar at Faap Theatres in Sao Paulo. Sheikha Nora is a speacilist on Qatari social history and customs. Her research covers tribe traditions, traditional medicine, and marriage traditions and she’s written widely on women’s social history in Qatar.

The Pearls exhibition is still on at the Museu de Arte Brasileira in Sao Paulo, until 28th September.
