Mathaf Curatorial Summer Camp 2016

4th September 2016

How to develop an institution or museum through its own archive?

Mathaf Curatorial Summer Camp 2016: Public Panel on archives and institution building  - An evening of presentations and discussions around the subject of archives and institution building takes place 5pm, Monday 5 September, as part of the Museum’s annual Curatorial Summer Camp 2016 (4-9 September 2016).

Guest Summer Camp lecturers Vasif Kortun, Director of Research & Programs of SALT Istanbul, and Kristine Khouri, Independent Researcher and Curator based in Beirut, are joined by Abdellah Karroum, Director of Mathaf, to present perspectives on curatorial and institutional methodologies of collecting and organizing archives from their working contexts.

These will look at the importance of building institutional archives and documenting the making of the museum, considering how the act of reflecting on the past gives a clearer vision for the future.

The focus on cultural organizations aims to tease out a discussion around the connectedness of archives in creating spaces for meaningful production and sharing of cultural histories, knowledge and aesthetics.

The event invites the public to discussions and conversations taking place in the Summer Camp, inviting contributions and debate from varied perspectives.
