Fire Station launch!

Under the guidance of our chairperson, H.E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, QM officially launched the new Fire Station building and Artists in Residence programme, as well as the inaugurational Exhibition 555, on 14th March in Doha.

"Arts, creativity and heritage play a vital role in the development of our country, supporting the pillars of our national vision."
H.E Sheikha Al Mayassa, speaking at the opening event

The Artist in Residence programme is scheduled to commence in September 2015, and will span a period of nine months, initially including 20 artists from a range of different disciplines, including art, photography, design, architecture and other fields.

The programme will first be open to local Qatari artists and residents of Qatar and to regional artists at a later stage.

We've been working on renovating the old Civil Defence Building (commonly known as the old Fire Station) since 2012, in preparation for hosting the new Artist in Residence programme.

We were keen to preserve the original facade of the building and recycle many of the features, to honour the heritage and traditions of the past while embracing the future, allowing the original integrity of the building to remain intact.

"We are happy with this wonderful transformation, having this building inaugurated for this great new purpose makes us all at the Civil Defense very proud."
General Directorate of Civil Defense Staff Brig. Abdullah Muhammed Al Suwaidi
